Matthew Young Lee

04/18/1962 - 05/30/2016
Matthew was a steadfast public servant, beginning his career as a Fire Apparatus Engineer, then taking a supervisory
role at Delta Camp where he was responsible for project implementation and the supervision and training of California
Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) inmate firefighters. After graduating from the Peace Officer
Standards and Training (POST) Academy, he moved into arson investigations and served as a Fire Captain Specialist.
Matt truly enjoyed when his work landed him in the middle of an active investigation requiring surveillance, enabling
him to utilize his bag of law enforcement gadgets. As Deputy Chief he took a role in statewide programs as the team
leader for the integration of structure damage inspection during wildland fires and for the implementation of wildland
fire investigation reports within the CAL FIRE emergency incident reporting system.

In his capacities as a firefighter, mentor, neighbor, and family man, Matt was most known for his love of life and ability
to connect with others. His smile and laugh were infectious. In recent years, he enjoyed traveling the world with his
wife, Melissa and living every moment to the fullest. There was no one that he could not talk to and befriend.

An exemplary son, Matt was a devoted husband and loved by those around him. He was preceded in death by his
brother, Gary. Matt is survived by his wife, Melissa Lee, parents, Young and Jessie Lee, and siblings, Karen (Paul)
Tsuda, Michael (Julie) Lee, and Mitchell Lee.
